l'Homme et le Train/the Man and the Train

VERY OFTEN I ASK MYSELF: "AM I A BIRD WHO WANTS TO BE A SOLDIER, OR A SOLDIER DREAMING THAT IT'S A BIRD?"

This is a few seconds of the latest animation I've finished on May 2009. The length of this film is 7 minutes and it's a combination of stop-motion and 2D drawings. It's the story of the interaction between a soldier who is standing guard, the train station he is guarding and the mountains that surround him.

Three years ago I received a call from a close friend who was just expelled from the mandatory military service. That could be a dream for any other soldier but my friend was complaining about being forced to quit there while he was having so much fun with every single second. He told me about the last 3 nights in a raw that he had played his favorite songs all night long for the other soldiers and officers. He added : "But I was giving them a deep joy. I could read it in their eyes."

This animation is inspired by the stories of the soldiers who have been asked to leave the military service because they were writing poems in the evenings! To those who decided to play songs for their officers no matter how late it was at night! To those who believe they are so happy and strong that they can live freely till the end of their lives.
